Becky Sutherland Cornett, Ph.D., is transitioning this year from an extensive and varied career in health care administration and policy to focus on community service, writing and discovery. Currently, she is a director in strategy and planning and government affairs at Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center. Becky has contributed over 120 articles, book chapters, and presentations on health care topics, and has co-authored and edited two textbooks in speech-language pathology.
Becky’s previous non-profit board experience includes Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio (LSSCO) and Women for Economic and Leadership Development (WELD). At LSSCO, she was the inaugural chair of the Quailty and Compliance committee, and served on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors. Becky was also the inaugural national Director of Impact for WELD, and continues as a member of WELD’s Impact Committee, writing quarterly articles on women’s leadership issues on behalf of WELD for Smart Business Columbus magazine.
Committed to life-long learning in her work and personal life, Becky strives in her board officer work to take organizations to higher levels of accountability and performance, and to ensure that impact is measured and optimized.
As the mother of a female Naval officer who is brave, resilient, persistent, and demonstrates a high degree of leadership in trying circumstances, Becky is looking forward to helping guide and expand 1Girl’s challenge to foster these skills and more in the girls we serve, and in the young women facilitators who lead our programs day-to-day.
