It is very important to get to know each of our girls individually, so we set up one-on-one meetings to talk about their projects. This gave the girls the opportunity to talk to one of us about their questions, concerns, and ideas regarding the project. It was a lot of fun to get to know them and learn more about their interests. It is also a great way for the girls to get to know one of us a little better.
While we were doing the one-on-one’s, we had discussions with the other girls. On Monday, we shared stories about young people who have done great projects like the ones we want them to do. This included elementary school students who have started businesses, raised money for non-profits, and influenced legislation. The discussion really got the girls to think about what is possible for them to accomplish even at their age.
On Tuesday, we talked about strong female role models they have. A few came to mind for them: Michele Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce. We discussed what makes a good role model and what makes a good leader. The girls all agreed that they want to be role models for others and be strong female leaders.
